Safari by day Itinerary: Serengeti And Mahale Safari
Days 1 – 4: Fly from Arusha into the Serengeti National Park
Take a scheduled flight from Arusha to the northern Serengeti. One of Tanzania’s most picturesque flights, it soars past famous sites including Ol Donyo Lengai and the Ngorongoro Crater. When you fly above the Serengeti, you become aware of the enormous size of the seemingly endless plains. At the airport, one of our guides will meet you and drive you back to Lamai Serengeti.
OUR SAFARI OF A LIFETIME (Serengeti Tanzania)
Lamai Serengeti
Arrive in Lamai between November and March, take your time, and we’ll show you the Serengeti from a different angle. This region is still lush and green, unlike the southern Serengeti plains, which dry out and force all but the hardiest species to depart. When the 1.5 million migrating wildebeest and the chaos they cause leave town for a few months, the local wildlife breathes a collective sigh of relief. Additionally, Lamai Serengeti’s local wildlife is amazing. We set out to explore the twisting river lines, rocky outcrops, and expansive plains on foot or in specially equipped 4×4 vehicles. We really believe that this should be your first stop if you were to just visit one area of the Serengeti.
Days 4 – 8: Fly from the Serengeti to Mahale National Park
You will be picked up from the Serengeti by our shared charter flight to Mahale. It takes around four hours to fly from Tabora to Mahale; in between, there is a refueling stop. When you fly low over the mountains and land on the airstrip that is situated directly along the shore of Lake Tanganyika, your arrival in Mahale is very unforgettable.
CHIMP TREKKING at Greystoke, Mahale!!! 🐵🐒 | TANZANIA, AFRICA
Travel to Greystoke Mahale by traditional Dhow
Our amazing guides will be waiting for you at the Mahale airport to transport you by boat to Greystoke. The Mahale Mountains rise significantly from the shore during this hour-and-a-half-long trip that glides along the edges of the amazingly pure lake. A special moment is often experienced while approaching the headland and catching sight of the famous Greystoke mess situated on our little stretch of white sand beach.
Greystoke Mahale
Many different species live with us in the mountains and lake, but it’s the chimpanzees who truly motivate us. Time spent with them is time spent away from everyday life. There’s more, though. Hike the forest trails in search of the various species that silently inhabit this area. Swim in pools created by mountain waterfalls, go kayaking early in the morning, and take in the sunrise over the mountains. Enjoy sundowners aboard our vintage wooden dhow or simply unwind on the beach’s soft sands while holding a beverage in your hand. We have lived in this extraordinary location for more than 20 years, and we are still in awe of it. There is no way not to be.
Fly back from Mahale to Arusha
Before your planned shared charter flight back to Arusha, you will say goodbye to the Greystoke team and return by boat to the airport. Once more making a fuel stop in Tabora, this flight departs from Arusha in the late afternoon, typically arriving in time to connect with any international flights leaving from Kilimanjaro airport.
