Spa
The hotel uses its own locally grown roses and coffee in its spa treatments. After your mountain gorilla climb, relax with a three-day wellness program that includes a coffee and coconut scrub to remove toxins and a deep muscular massage. The Sleep Nest Ritual is a 90-minute treatment that combines acupressure, aromatherapy, chimes, and rain sticks to help you relax and go asleep after the excitement of your great ape expedition.
Packing tips
Wear camouflage, neutral linens, and environmentalist gear in general; binoculars are a plus.
Children
Visitors of any age are permitted in the national park, however the minimum age for gorilla trekking is 15. However, activities such as nature walks, archery, and cycling are great for kids of all ages at the Jack Hanna Cottage.
Sustainability efforts
Produce comes from the chef’s garden or local growers, food scraps are sent to a local pig farm owned by a woman, single-use plastics are banned, and all turndown gifts are made by local craftsmen. The resort also collaborates with Handspun Hope, a group that helps HIV/AIDS patients and vulnerable female survivors of the 1994 Genocide.
