Mountain Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa and the highest single free-standing mountain in the world. It is a dormant volcano in Tanzania, rising 5895 meters above sea level. Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira are its three volcanic summits. Rongai, the most popular and straightforward route, is the only one that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north. Other popular routes are Mweka, Machame, Umbwe, Marangu, Shira, and Lemosho. The Machame path is the most challenging and most traveled, while taking nearly a week to finish due to its stepped terrain. Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is a once-in-a-lifetime experience like no other, complete with the ability to camp in the great outdoors and take in breathtaking vistas of the African scenery. We provide a wide variety of Kilimanjaro climbing packages, including all of the possible routes up the mountain.

Best Time for Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

Countries in East Africa typically experience tropical climate because the Equator passes across the region. The dry months of June through September and December through February are the best times to climb Mount Kilimanjaro since the trails are less muddy and the roads going to the mountains are less flooded. However, given that these mountains are so tall and far above sea level, you should expect to encounter drizzles and slick soils until you reach the upper places, so be sure to pack appropriate trekking gear. Many other activities, such as animal viewing, Gorilla tracking, Chimpanzee tracking, and Golden Monkey tracking, can be added to your itinerary before or after your journey in a specific country, including climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

At Kabira Safaris & Tours Africa, we can help you organize a trip that includes both gorilla trekking in Uganda and the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. In the far south-western corner of Uganda, in the Bwindi forest, you may visit and trek the mountain gorillas, making gorilla trekking one of the top things to do in Uganda. Both Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park are popular destinations for gorilla tracking in Uganda. The critically endangered mountain gorillas can also be seen in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park and the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Virunga National Park.

Steps on Combining Kilimanjaro And Gorilla Trekking

You can begin your trip in Uganda with a gorilla trek and then fly to Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro International Airport to begin your Kilimanjaro ascent, or you can do it the other way around. Several airlines, including Kenya Airways, Rwandair, and Airlink, provide service on the routes between Tanzania and Uganda.

Gorilla Trekking in Uganda

Buhoma, Ruhija, Nkuringo, and Rushaga are the four sectors of Bwindi Forest where gorilla tracking takes place. Both the northern Buhoma sector and the eastern Ruhija sector of Bwindi are conveniently adjacent to Queen Elizabeth National Park, so visitors may easily combine gorilla trekking with game viewing. Rushaga and Nkuringo sectors are located in southern Bwindi, not far from Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, where visitors can embark on a gorilla hike or search for golden monkeys. There are significantly more mountain gorilla families in the Rushaga sector that are available for gorilla trekking than in any of the other sectors.

Foreign non-residents must pay US$700 per person, per journey, whereas East African residents pay US$600, and East African citizens pay US$70. If you’re lucky enough to locate the mountain gorillas while hiking through Bwindi Forest, you can spend an hour with them thanks to this Gorilla permit.
