This 7-day trip to the northeastern section of Uganda, the Karamoja region, between Uganda’s borders with Sudan and Kenya, includes visits to the national parks of Kidepo valley, Pian upe, and Sipi falls. You’ll go on a cultural tour and meet the local Karamojong people, go on game drives, and see a wide variety of animals like lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants, elands, oribi, Uganda kobs, Jackson’s hartebeest, cheetahs, mountain reedbucks, caracals, giraffes, greater and lesser kudus, dik-diks, and more.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Kitgum

On the first day of the 7-day Kidepo valley, Pian upe, and Sipi falls safari, our driver guide will meet you and educate you on the safari before driving you to Kidepo valley national park. The trip to Kitgum town includes a stop for dinner and overnight, as well as en route lunches and stunning views of the terrain, farmland, and Karuma falls, among others.

Day 2: Proceed to Kidepo valley national park- afternoon game drive

After breakfast on day two of your seven-day safari to Kidepo valley, Pian upe, and Sipi falls, your driving guide will pick you up and take you to the park. Animals such as elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, klipspringers, reedbucks, bushbucks, bat eared foxes, jackals, lions, leopards, Uganda kobs, and more can be seen during an afternoon game drive after you’ve checked into the lodge for lunch. Afterwards, you’ll head back to the lodge for some rest and relaxation before supper.

Explore Kidepo Valley National Park

On day three of your seven-day Kidepo valley, Pian upe, and Sipi falls safari, you will meet your driving guide for a morning wildlife drive in Narus valley, also known as a water provision point. Animals such as buffaloes, elephants, and Uganda kobs, among others, gather in the Narus valley to drink from the watering holes there. There are several types of birds to see, including ostriches, Karamoja apalis, scarlet-chested sunbirds, Abyssinian ground hornbills, secretary birds, and more. You will have lunch back at the lodge after your game drive.

After lunch, you’ll get the opportunity to visit the nearby villages of the Karamajong people and learn about their culture firsthand. During the cultural tour, you will get to know the Karamojong people, their customs, and their way of life by visiting their manyattas and experiencing their traditional music and dancing. You’ll be driven back to the lodge for dinner and the night after your cultural tour.

Day 4: Morning game drive and transfer to Pian upe game reserve

After breakfast on the fourth day of the 7 days Kidepo valley, Pian upe and Sipi falls safari, your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge for go for a game drive in Kidepo valley where you will be rewarded with great views of wildlife species including lions, leopards, cheetahs, elands, reedbucks, oribi, giraffes, Uganda kobs, kudus, elephants, bushbucks and different bird species including ostriches. You will check out of the accommodation and begin your travel to the Pian upe wildlife reserve after lunch following your game drive. While on safari in Uganda, you will check into a lodge upon your arrival for dinner and a night’s stay.

Day 5: Morning game drive and transfer to Sipi falls

The fifth day of your seven-day Kidepo valley, Pian Upe, and Sipi falls safari will begin with an early breakfast before you meet your driving guide for a morning game drive in the reserve, when the animals are at their most active. Wildlife such as oribi, zebras, mountain reedbucks, Uganda kobs, buffaloes, waterbucks, roan antelopes, and hyenas out for a morning hunt can all be seen during a game drive, as can a variety of birds like ostriches, secretary birds, and the yellow-billed shrike.

Returning to the lodge for lunch following the wildlife drive, you’ll then check out and meet your driver guide for the ride to Sipi falls. You’ll be treated to breathtaking vistas of the surrounding countryside and old farmsteads as you make your way to the lodge for the night.

Day 6: Hike Sipi waterfalls and coffee tour

Your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge on the sixth day of your 7-day Kidepo valley, Pian Upe, and Sipi falls safari after breakfast to take you on a hike to Sipi falls, which can take as little as 4 hours or as long as 8 hours, depending on your fitness level. The three waterfalls range in height from 100 to 75 to 85 meters, and the climb offers stunning vistas of Mount Elgon, the Karamoja region, and the surrounding farmlands, among other sights. You’ll be taken back to the resort for lunch after your waterfall climb.

After lunch, you’ll embark on a coffee tour, during which you’ll see some of the local farmers at work, stroll through some coffee plantations, and peek inside a processing facility, where you’ll find out how coffee is made from start to finish (including the removal of the husks and the roasting of the beans, of course). You’ll head back to the resort after your coffee tour for some downtime, dinner, and the night.

Day 7: Departure to Kampala

On the final day of your 7-day Kidepo valley, Pian upe, and Sipi falls safari, after a leisurely breakfast, you’ll check out of the lodge and be transferred back to Kampala by your driver guide. After stopping for lunch en route, you’ll finish the drive to Kampala, where you’ll arrive in the early evening. From there, your driver guide will take you to Entebbe International Airport for your flight home, or to any other location you choose.
