MOUNTAIN GORILLAS in Uganda! Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Detailed Itinerary: Gorillas in The Mist
Day 1: Fly to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Travel by plane from Uganda’s Entebbe International Airport to the little airstrip in Kihihi’s southwestern region.
The Buhoma entrance to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is a four-hour drive from Kihihi airstrip.
To learn more about the area surrounding Buhoma, meet up with your guide. Attend a performance of Batwa songs and dances by the friendly neighbors who live nearby. A peek of their culture and a look back at their time spent in the rainforest. Then, take a trip through Buhoma and meet locals like the local brewer, who uses local bananas to manufacture juices, gins, and beers, and the traditional healer, who will impart the secrets of medicinal highland flora. On your way back to your lodge for the night, be sure to check out the local souvenir shops. Beeswax candles and hand carved wooden ornaments are made by local artisans, making this a perfect place to pick up a one-of-a-kind keepsake.
Safari Lodge: Buhoma Community Haven Lodge (Boutique safari) or Buhoma Lodge, Four Gorillas Lodge (Luxury safari)
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi’s Rainforest
Gorilla trekking ( Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park – Uganda)
Get up close and personal with a family of endangered mountain gorillas in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. About half of the world’s wild mountain gorilla population is found in this rainforest, making it a critically important conservation site. Bwindi is one of Uganda’s most ecologically diverse and oldest rainforests, dating back over 25,000 years and home to over 400 plant species and 350 bird species, including 23 Rift Valley endemics. On your gorilla tour, the rangers will point out interesting flora and animals and explain how they fit into the larger ecosystem of the rainforest.
You will be escorted to the trailhead into the jungle from your gorilla safari lodge after an early morning rise and a delicious breakfast. Here, rangers from the Uganda Wildlife Authority will brief you on your hike through the jungle in search of mountain gorillas and then lead you onward. Where the gorillas spent the night determines how long of a trip you should expect, which can be anywhere from thirty minutes to seven hours. You’ll get to spend an entire hour with these fantastic beasts after you track them down. Watching this special family eat, talk, care for their young, patrol, and show off their abilities is, we hope you’ll agree, one of nature’s most enchanting sights. Once you’ve had your fill of gorilla viewing, it’s time to head back to your gorilla safari lodge at the park’s boundary.
Relax at the gorilla lodge after your gorilla safari. At the lodge, you may relax on your own private patio while taking in breathtaking views of the surrounding jungle. If you’re feeling sore after your jungle hike, stop by the lodge’s spa for a complimentary massage (available only with the luxury safari option).
Safari Lodge: Buhoma Community Haven Lodge (Boutique safari) or Buhoma Lodge, Four Gorilla Lodges (Luxury safari)
Day 3: Fly from the Gorilla Highlands
Travel southwest from Buhoma, Uganda, to the Kihihi airfield.
To get to Entebbe International Airport, a plane took off from the Kihihi airstrip.
Your aircraft is scheduled to land at Entebbe International Airport at 11:25, but due to factors like weather and the route taken, the airline will confirm an exact arrival time the night before your trip.
