Detailed Itinerary: 6 Days in Burundi and Rwanda

Day 1: Arrival In Bujumbura And Transfer To The Hotel

Your 6 Day Burundi and Rwanda Safari will begin upon your arrival at Bujumbura Airport in Burundi, where our tour guide will meet you and convey you to your pre-booked hotel.

Day 2: Bujumbura City Tour

Visit the “Place de l’Independence” mausoleum of Price Louis Rwagasore, a hero in the independence of Burundi, after lunch; see “La pierre de Stanley et Livingstone,” a commemorative stone of the place where the famous explorers Stanley and Livingstone rested on their way to find the source of the Nile; and take in a breathtaking view of Lake Tanganyika. Transfer back to the hotel after an optional visit to the Albert’s crocodiles and the Sion market. After that, take a boat ride into Rusizi National Park to get up close and personal with the hippo and birdlife there.

Day 3: Source Of Nile, Karera Waterfalls & Burundi Drummers

At 7:00 a.m., after breakfast, you will depart for the Nile’s beginning. After that, you must see the breathtaking Karera Falls. Transfer return to Bujumbura after an afternoon spent in Gitega seeing the Burundi National Museum, Gishora hill, and a drum performance.

Day 4: Nyungwe – Chimpanzee Trekking & Nature Walk


Meeting the Nyungwe Forest Chimpanzees – Rwanda

Following breakfast at 6:00 a.m., you will travel through the rugged countryside that gave Rwanda its nickname, “the land of a thousand hills,” on your way to the national park of Nyungwe. After lunch, you can embark on a hike through the jungle in search of monkeys like the blue monkey and the Angolan Columbus monkey.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking & transfer to Kigali

Start the day with a hearty breakfast, then set out on foot in search of chimpanzees and other primates before returning in time for lunch. Visit the Rwandan Historical Museum in Butare after lunch, then head to the King’s Palace in Nyanza.

Day 6: Kigali City Tour and Airport Transfer

Visit the CAPLAKi handicrafts village, the Nyamirambo women’s center, the Presidential Palace Museum, the Kandt Museum, and the Kigali Genocide memorial after breakfast.
